The hope was that when the birds came to feed, they would knock off the coconut shell, allowing the raccoons to get easy access to food.

Rosetta sat there, in front of them, holding out a plate of fresh fruits and vegetables. The raccoons looked at her with such hunger in their eyes, but also with a look of uncertainty, as if they didn't fully understand what was happening.

Slowly, Rosetta began to explain to the raccoons about the importance of the garden, and how their actions were destroying not just a beautiful place, but also the habitat of the birds and insects that had befriended her in the garden.

As she spoke, Rosetta could see the raccoons' eyes growing wider with understanding. She could sense that they wanted to change, and she knew that they could.

She started teaching them what they could eat that would not harm her garden. They could forage in the trash bins, but they could also eat insects like crickets and mealworms. When the raccoons were strong enough, she even showed them a chat of worms crawling in the ground, and they were delighted.

She installed a small compost bin in the alley behind her house, filled with leftover vegetables and fruits, hoping that the raccoons would find it and take advantage of it as an alternative food source.
